William " Wilbur" Jones Obituary

William Edward “Wilbur” Jones

KEYSER, WV – William Edward “Wilbur” Jones, 66, departed this life for eternity on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Born on March 8, 1956 in Keyser, he was the son of the late William B. and Straudie I. (Sherman) Jones. He was the loving husband of Lana Marie (Kerns) Jones with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Wilbur graduated from Keyser High School and Mineral County Vocational Technical School, class of 1975. He went on to be a Journeyman Mechanic for Dominion Power in Mt. Storm from which he retired after 39 years. Wilbur considered the guys he worked with as his second family. After his retirement from Mt. Storm, he went from part-time to full-time “zookeeper” at our family home.

Wilbur was a faithful member of Fountain Gospel Chapel. He was also a member of IBEW Local 50 Union, and former member of Keyser Fire Department, and Fire & Rescue at Mt. Storm.

Wilbur will be especially remembered for his selfless servant’s heart. He spent his life volunteering at organizations that included United Way, Habitat for Humanity, 4-H Pony Camp, church events, Food Pantry, Keyser (pack #27) and New Creek (pack #35) Boy Scouts, and preparing Mt. Storm holiday food baskets. . He was always helping others…laughing and joking all the while. He’d drop anything when called upon by his family and friends. Wilbur never met a stranger. He’d have given you the shirt off his own back. He will be very dearly missed by his family and friends. He left a legacy of service that will continue to be an inspiration to all that knew him.

In addition to his wife, Lana, Wilbur is survived by his favorite daughter Brittny Shayna Jones Redman (wife of Robert); son Caleb Jacob Kerns Jones (husband of favorite daughter-in-law Shannon), and son Gabriel William Andrew Jones (companion of Desirèe Suter). His grandchildren were the light of his life. Pappy will be lovingly missed and remembered by Tahlton, Cora, Walker, and Cohin Redman and Emma Paige Jones…and of course, special grandchild Jeb (as Wilbur joked…the only grandchild who listened to him).

Wilbur is also survived by his brother-in-law Dewayne Kerns (husband of Mary Kay) and their son Zachary; sister-in-law Teresa Staggs (wife of Keith) and children Stevie, Rachel, Morgan, and Jessie; and Jimmy Jones and Beverly “Sissy” Fife. He is also survived by his long-time best friend whom he considered his brother, David Johnson. Wilbur was preceded in death by Paul Jones, William “Pickle” Jones, James Jones, Donald “Curly” Jones, Wilamina Hoffa, Barbara Jones, Wayne Kerns, Whitney Smith, Ruby Dilley, Patrick Jones, and Marrieta Kohl..

If desired, the family asked you to consider a memorial contribution in honor of William E. “Wilbur” Jones to a favorite charity of one’s choice.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Markwood Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Goldizen officiating. Entombment will be held in Potomac Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
