William Charles “Bill” Edel

     Irwin, PA – William Charles “Bill” Edel, 91, formerly of Keyser, WV, died on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Golden Heights Personal Care Home, Irwin, PA.

     Born on September 9, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA his was the only child of Alexander and Clara (Westerman) Edel. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Myra Jean (Musser) Edel on March 2, 2002.

     Bill was a retired Emeritus Professor from Potomac State College. Prior to working at Potomac State, he taught Economics at Clemson University and Davis and Elkins College. He served in the United States Navy Reserves. He attended Dumbarton/Glenn High School in Henrico County, VA, Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA, where he was a member of the basketball team and Phi Delta Theta.  He earned his first Master’s degree in Economics from University of Virginia and the second one in Communications from West Virginia University. Bill identified himself through economics and education. He was always interested in learning and sharing his knowledge with others.

      Bill was guided by his faith throughout his life and was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he participated in Bible Study, Sunday School and was a Lay Leader.

     He had many passions that he shared with his wife playing tennis and hiking in the Canaan Valley area. He enjoyed family trips to the Outer Banks and Disney and loved any activity that included his beloved grandson.

     Surviving are his daughter, Frances Jean Easter and husband Alan M. of Jeannette, PA and his grandson, Richard Easter.

     Memorial contribution may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Keyser, WV 26726.

     Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.   Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Lauren Godwin officiating. . A Graveside service and interment will be held in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond, VA on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Matt Bates officiating.
