Shirley Mae Pomeroy
WINCHESTER, VA - Shirley Mae Pomeroy passed away peacefully in Richmond, VA on April 13, 2022.
Shirley was born on September 8, 1946 in Washington D.C. and graduated from Suitland High School in Forestville, MD. She worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at the GSA, Main Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service where she met her husband Russell. Shirley and Russell were married on September 1, 1991 on the staircase overlooking the trout pond in the LL Bean retail store in Freeport, Maine.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Van Summers, her parents, John and Louise Murphy, of Keyser, WV, and her brother Johnny Murphy.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Russell Pomeroy. She is also survived by her daughters, Jennifer Garretson and Rachel Barnes, and grandchildren Joey and Jaclyn Kinkella, and Ethan and Everett Barnes.
Shirley was an avid animal lover, and enjoyed supporting several charities that focus on animal welfare. She loved her four dogs (Coco, Mia, Stella and Sophie) dearly, and truly considered them family. One of the highlights of her life was when she and her husband generously donated two k9 safety vests for police dogs with the Winchester City police department. Shirley treasured the unconditional love of a pet, and would do anything to help an animal in need.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s honor to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1:00pm in the mausoleum at Potomac Memorial Gardens at 597 Cemetery Rd. Keyser, WV.
