Sandra Kay “Sandy” (Sears) Matthews
KEYSER, WV – Sandra Kay “Sandy” (Sears) Matthews, 83, of Keyser, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at her residence.
Born on September 10, 1941, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Paul W. and Edith (Troutman) Sears. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Matthews, Jr.; her daughter, Kimberly K. Prysock, sisters, Donna Everett and Nelva Hixenbaugh and brother, William “Bill” Sears.
Sandy graduated from Keyser High School, Class of 1959 and her working career began at the Clerk Office for the City of Keyser. From there, she worked at the National Bank of Keyser as Head Bookkeeper, and years later, enjoyed working as a teller at Grant County Bank. She was a faithful member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of the lota Pi Chapter, Tau Phi Lambda Sorority which she served as president for a time.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and devoted homemaker who loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. She was an avid shopper, enjoyed playing cards with the girls, attending Basket Bingo fundraisers and monthly lunches with classmates and longtime friends from NBK. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rhonda L. Martin and husband Greg of Keyser, two sons, David G. Prysock and wife Karen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Duane Matthews and wife Leslie of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Briana Stansberry, April Stansberry, Olivia Dawson, Nathalie Dawson, Brandon Prysock, Travis Martin, Mariah Martin, Michael Burris, Scott Matthews and Jesse Matthews; four great-grandchildren; sister, Illa Lough of Lakeland, FL; two sisters-in-laws, Shirley Rose and Sherri Sears and special friends whom she held close to her heart. She is also survived by many special, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Markwood Funeral Home from 12 noon – 3:00pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00pm with Reverend Lauren A. Godwin officiating. Entombment will be held in Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
