Sandra Louise Sharps (Staggs), 80, of Van Alstyne, Texas, formerly of Keyser, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Born on September 27, 1945, in Keyser, West Virginia, Sandra was the daughter of the late Roland Herbert Staggs and Ruby Lee Rumer Staggs. A graduate of Keyser High School, she pursued higher education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Fairmont State University in 1968. She furthered her academic journey by obtaining a Master’s degree in 1987 in Library Science from North Texas University in Denton, TX. Mrs. Sharps was an adjunct professor in Library Science at the Texas Women's University and the North Texas State, in Denton, Texas and Texas A&M in Commerce, TX.. She ultimately retired on December 31, 2003, as Library Administrator for the Denton Independent School District, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to students and educators. Sandra was a devoted member of Rejoice Lutheran Church in Frisco, Texas.
On July 1, 1966, Sandra married John Allen Sharps Jr., with whom she shared nearly sixty years of love and partnership. She is survived by her loving husband, John; her son, Phillip J. Sharps (Tina) of Van Alstyne, Texas; her sister, Janet Bridges (Tim) of Plano, Texas; her brother Charles D. Staggs (Julie) of Harrison, Tenn; and her cherished grandchildren that were a source of immense joy in her life: Anthony P. Sharps, Stephen A. Sharps, Jason Q. Sharps, Alexis C. Sharps, Ian P. Sharps, and Nicole R. Sharps. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Victoria C. Sharps.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 9:30-10:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 76 North Davis Street, Keyser. A funeral service to honor Sandra’s life will follow the visitation, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Sally L. Bartling officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, Maryland.

Sandra’s unwavering commitment to education and her faith left an indelible mark on those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to all who mourn her passing.
