Ruth Elaine "Toots" Dorsey
WHEELING, WV - Ruth Elaine "Toots" Dorsey beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 in Wheeling, WV. She passed peacefully with her family at her side. She was lovingly committed to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Ruth loved her family, enjoyed playing tennis well into her seventies and relished hosting family functions and parties. She enjoyed painting, music, dancing and the beach. She had a tremendous fondness of animals, especially horses and dogs. She was a very kind and compassionate lady.
Born in Keyser, WV on July 11, 1931, daughter of the Earl Dane and Leona Marie Purinton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Robert Edward Purinton and her husband of 58 years, John T. "Jack" Dorsey Jr.
Surviving are sons and families: J. Thomas Dorsey, III, his wife Lou Ann and children, Johanna, Jay (Claire) and Scott; Timothy E. Dorsey, his wife Carla and children, Jonathan and Joseph (Sarah); Anthony Dorsey, his wife Laura and son Justin Kropka (Trina) and great grandchildren Campbell, Colby and Jennifer. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and good friend, Mary Clara Lambert and her husband Jim, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, all who were dear to her.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling, WV for the excellent care provided our mother. The family is grateful to Linda Secrist and the late Mary Beth Callahan Kirchner for the love and compassion shown our mother.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, WV Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 11:00am – noon. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at noon. Interment will be held in Saint Thomas Cemetery, Keyser, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
