Richard F. “Sonny” Clay
Keyser, WV - Richard F. “Sonny” Clay, 92, of Keyser, died on Monday, August 2, 2021 at his residence.
Born on October 29, 1928 in North Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Florence (Rohrbach) Clay. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Jean (McNeill) Clay and his sisters, Patricia Morgan, Winifred Prines and Alice Hedrick. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was the owner of Keyser Radiator Repair and Welding, from which he retired in 1989. He served in Korea for two years with the United States Army. He was an active member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren until age restricted his movements. He was one of seven founding members of the White Poplar Hunting Club which was established in 1960 and has hosted many family gatherings, picnics, work-detail weekends, a few weddings and six decades of hunting seasons.
Sonny also loved spending time with his family at his cottage on the Cacapon River. He enjoyed making furniture for family members from rough wood. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Patricia Ann “Pat” Clay and Scott M. Clay and wife Anna Mae and two grandchildren, Kathyrn Fisher and husband Sam and their children, Elijah, Josiah and Judah Fisher and Morgan Clay and wife Shana and their children, Nathaniel and Andrew Clay. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the Markwood Funeral Home Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Sonny Dodds officiating. Interment will be held in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
