Richard O. “Dick” Taylor
KEYSER, WV - Richard O. “Dick” Taylor, 85, of Keyser, WV, departed from his residence and went to be with his Lord Thursday, March 18, 2021.
Born on August 29, 1935, he was the son of the late B. Russell Taylor and Lessie Louise (Spurling) Taylor, Kitzmiller. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald D. Taylor, Robert (Bobby) Taylor, James Taylor, and Terry Taylor.
Mr. Taylor graduated from Keyser High School in 1953, and then served four years in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. He was a member of the Keyser American Legion Post #41 and worked at the Potomac Edison Company in Augusta, WV in the Meter Department until his retirement in 1997. A faithful Christian, Dick taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon for several years and did what he could to lead others to Christ.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his family.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Shirley Dawson Taylor; two daughters, Kimberla Shrout of Enterprise, WV and husband Daniel, and Karen Benson of Keyser and husband Les; four grandchildren, Jaime Salemi of Martinez, GA, Adam Ellifritz of New Bern, NC, Brad Benson of Cumberland, MD, and Brian Benson of Cumberland, MD; three great-grandchildren, Emma Salemi, Zane Ellifritz, and Zoe Ellifritz; and several special nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sister, Judy Broadwater and sisters-in-law, Alberta Taylor, Betty Johnson, and Sylvia (Lynnie) Garrett and husband Larry.
Friends may call at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, WV, on Friday, March 26, 2021 from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2:00pm with nephew, Pastor Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in Queens-Meadow Point Cemetery, Limestone Road, Keyser, WV. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and American Legion Post 13 Honor Guard.
Due to the current health concerns, all guests are required to wear face masks and exercise social distancing at all time.
