Richard W. Hess

     KEYSER, WV - Richard W. Hess passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

     He was born on July 21, 1942 in Keyser, WV, the son of the late Earl Kieffer Hess and Louise (Welch) Hess. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley A. (Parrill) Hess 2008.

     Richard is survived by daughters, Bridgette A. Hess and Christine S. Hess; granddaughter, Brooke W. Marsh; and nephew, Larry W. Kruk, Jr.

     He was Lutheran by faith.

     Richard attended schools in Waynesboro, PA, Keyser, WV and graduated in 1960 from the Fork Union Military Academy. He retired from Westvaco (New Page) 2007 with 41 years of service as Maintenance Shop Supervisor.

     Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve. Serving 3 years with the 7th Fleet aboard USS Ranger and USS Bonhomme Richard supporting action in Vietnam, 1963 – 1966. He served from 1978-1999 in the Navy Reserve assigned to Naval Construction Battalion 23 (Seabee’s), which was activated for Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 1990-1991. Richard retired Chief Petty Officer Equipment Operator with a total 24 years of service.

     He was a member of the FRA (Fleet Reserve Association), American Legion Boyce-Houser Post 41, and NRA (National Rifle Association).

     Services will be private. Donation in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
