Owen Ray Stanley

     KEYSER, WV - Owen Ray Stanley, 88, of Keyser, died on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at his residence.

     Born December 24, 1933, he was a son of the late Clarence K. and Clara E. (Frey) Stanley.  He was also preceded in death by a son Timothy Stanley on November 6, 1996; brothers, Norval and Ken Stanley and sisters, Helen Stanley, Beatrice Steward, Rosalie Oliver, Marlene Heeter and Mary Mosser.

      Professor Emeritus Stanley was in Human Resources for over 21 years, employed at Pittsburgh Steel Company, Columbian Carbon Company (Cities Service Corp.), Rockwell International and AVCO New Idea Farm Implements and Hobart Corporation, advancing from Administrative Assistant to Supervisor to Personnel Manager and then Director of Personnel. He finished his career after 20 years at Glenville State College as a Professor in Management and Business Courses from 1978 to 1998 before retiring to his home town of Keyser, WV.

     He is a graduate of Keyser High Class of 1951, Potomac State College, West Virginia University, Duquesne University of Pittsburgh with a MBA Degree and 36 hours on his doctoral degree and a U.S. Navy Korean Veteran.  A faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church where he was heavily involved in activities such as, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Pastoral Parish Relations Chairman, President, Trustee board, Youth Counselor, Lay Leader and Chancel Choir member. He also was a member of Boyce House Post 41, American Legion.  Owen was the last Keyser Soap Box Derby Champion in 1947 and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors.

      Surviving are his wife, Judith L. (Ravenscroft) Stanley; his son, Jeffrey Stanley and wife Wendy of Coldwater, Ohio; his daughter, Gayle King and husband Mark of Layman, Ohio; stepsons, Joseph Barrick and wife Tracie of Thurmont, MD and Charles Barrick and wife Amy of Keyser; his brother, Robert Stanley of Keyser; his grandchildren, Josh, Jodie, Jill, Nick, Samantha, Alison, Jessica, Tim, Kayla and Kara and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Stanley. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

     Friends will be received at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the church following the visitation at 2:00pm with Reverend Beth Jacobson and Reverend Wayne Gosnell officiating.

     Interment will be held in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. Full Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the America Legion Post #13 Honor Guard.

     In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Owen Ray Stanley to the Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 297, Keyser, WV 26726 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

     Arrangements have been entrusted to the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.
