Ormond Russell Hyers, Jr.

     Ormond Russell Hyers, Jr., 89, of Keyser, WV, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 11, 2025.

     Born in Long Branch, NJ, Ormond was the son of the late Ormond Russell Hyers Sr. and Anna (Janosko) Hyers. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Audrey Hyers Anderson Wallace.

     Ormond is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Karen (Hacker) Hyers; their children: Christopher Hyers and wife Cathie of Puyallup, WA, Gary Hyers of Green Bank, NJ, and Dawn (Hyers) Boggs and husband Bill of Keyser, WV and his grandchildren Jordan and Arianna Hyers and Aaron (fiancée Mariah Durr) and Harris Boggs.  He is also survived by his younger brother Ronald Hyers (wife Helyn White).

     Throughout his life he called many places home: He was raised in Belford, NJ, graduating from Leonardo High School, Class of 1953. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, calling the USS Truckee home while serving honorably in the United States Navy. He raised his family in Eatontown and Clarksburg NJ. After many years of service with the U.S. Army Civil Service at Fort Monmouth, NJ, Ormond and Karen retired to West Virginia where he was a faithful member of the Slanesville Presbyterian Church. 

     He found joy in the simple pleasures: a dip in the pool after work, playing Books and Runs with family, watching football and NASCAR, good books, hearty meals, and especially a solid nap (from which he didn’t like being disturbed from).

     He lived a life filled with love, laughter, service, and stories—many of which will be told for generations.

     Many thanks to The Kensington/The Country House in Cumberland, MD where he received excellent care and love for the past 6 months.

     Friends will be received on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the Markwood Funeral Home from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00pm with Reverend Michele Elliott officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy National Honor Guard and the Keyser American Legion Honor Guard.
