Norman K. Haywood
KEYSER, W.VA. – Norman K. Haywood, 97, of 445 St. Cloud Street, Keyser, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at WMHS Memorial Campus, Cumberland, MD.
Born May 10, 1910 in Westernport, MD, he was a son of the late Thomas Haywood, Sr. and Amanda (Troy) Haywood. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Hattie M. (Grove) Haywood; two daughters, Victoria and Barbara E. Haywood; six brothers, Gerald, Earlen, Paul, Orville, Junie and Holmes Haywood and two sisters, Freda Haywood and Margaret Wolfe and a great grandson Steven Riggleman, Jr. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Haywood was retired as a lubricator from Westvaco Corp. after 45 years of service. After retirement, he helped out at Keyser Karpet Korner and Poor Richard’s. He was a graduate of Bruce High School, attended the University of Maryland and a U.S. Army WWII Veteran where he served with 729th Engineer Depot Company in European African Middle East and Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member of VFW Post 6775, Queen’s Point in McCoole.
Surviving are his daughters, Norma Shoemaker, Juanita Propst and Mindy Ray and husband Gary, all of Keyser; three grandchildren whom he and Hattie raised as their own, Dr. Tony Haywood and wife Karen of Romney, Phillip Casamentoof Las Vegas, NV and Teresa Haywood Riggleman of Keyser; 13 additional grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Randy Crowe officiating.
Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
