She found her true work home and work family when she began working for Burlington United Methodist Family Services in 1977. She spent 17 years in the bookkeeping/accounting department, and then transitioned to her true calling, working as a transportation aid with the BUMFS foster care Staff for the last 10 years of her career. She loved the foster children and her foster care co-workers. She learned the back roads of Hampshire and Preston counties, taking children to and from their foster homes for family visits, appointments, etc. A cancer diagnosis in 2005 saw Neva retire from her job, but she maintained fond memories and lifelong friendships from her time there.
An outgoing woman, she never met a stranger, she had an infectious laugh, a beautiful smile and loved to dance. Her greatest love and joy in her life was spending time with, loving and caring for her family.
She was known as an excellent cook and loved to feed her family and friends at holiday meals, family reunions and other occasions. She enjoyed making crafts, baby quilts and Christmas tree skirts. Her craft booth was a fixture at area craft shows for many years.
