Mary L. Summers
KEYSER, W.Va. – Mary L. Summers, 98, of Keyser, died on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Piney Valley Nursing Home.
Born November 26, 1922, in Cumberland, MD, she was a daughter of the late Jessie G. (Umstot) Brinkman and Fredrick W. Brinkman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James "Fred" Summers on February 23, 2002; a grandson, Robert L. Rummer, Jr.; sisters, Harriet Beard and Zena Murray; a brother, Jackson Brinkman; sisters-in-law, Norma Brinkman, Hazel Borror, Edna Fraley, Lucy Saville, Helen Summers and Mae Summers and brothers-in-law, John Beard, Jack Murray, Harry Summers, Homer Fraley and Roy Borror. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family.
Mrs. Summers was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was a graduate of Ridgeley High School Class of 1940, an active member of First United Methodist Church and women’s group. She was part of the original Heartland of Keyser Volunteer Association where she served for many years. Mary was a bookkeeper for Summers Auto Sales.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Janet Rummer and husband Robert of Fairmont, James F. Summers, Jr. of Keyser and Robert E. Summers and partner Kathy Brown of Keyser; her grandchildren, Monte Rummer and wife Daniela of Honeybrook, PA, Rebecca Merritt and husband Phillip of Fairmont, Tracey Schramm and husband Ralph of Greensburg, PA, Heather VanSickle and husband Steve of Farmington, PA, Jeremiah Summers and Jessica Summers both of Keyser; brother-in-law, Raymond Summers; and sister-in-law, Marlene Mattingly Brinkman. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Matthew Rummer, Lili Rummer, Kate Merritt, Grace Merritt, Justin Schramm, Alan VanSickle, Dana VanSickle and Wyatt Barger.
A family graveside and interment service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 2:00pm at Potomac Memorial Gardens with Reverend Lloyd E. Heatwole officiating.
Due to the current health concerns, all guests are required to wear face masks and exercise social distancing at all time.
