Larry Pancake
NEW CREEK, WV – Larry Ward Pancake, 81 of New Creek, died on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on September 24, 1939 on the family farm in New Creek, he was a son of the late Albert and Clarissa Marie (Barb) Pancake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, infant Ervin Pancake, Joe Pancake and Robert Pancake.
Larry was a 1957 graduate of Keyser High School and served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1964. He worked alongside his father and brothers in the operation of the family business, Quality Dairy, Inc. until its closure in 1973. He spent his entire life on the family farm. He often said, “I’m not a farmer, I just farm”.
In 1970, Larry attended Gospel Tent meetings in New Creek where he learned he needed to be born again. On July 19, 1970, as a guilty, Hell-deserving sinner, on his knees beside his bed he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his own and personal Saviour. From that day, Larry made it a priority to tell others of the Savior through the handing out of Gospel tracts and his own personal testimony. He enjoyed sharing the Gospel with everyone he met. For over 50 years, Larry met with the Christians gathered together in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ at the New Creek Gospel Hall.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mabel Marie (Aronhalt) Pancake, his six daughters, Rachel Boddy and husband Tim, Anita Lower and husband Mark, Naomi “Sweetie” Boddy and husband Wes, Esther Stewart and husband Johnny and Hannah Rexrode all of New Creek and Abigail Deloughery and husband Joel of Purgitsville and his six sons, Amos Pancake, Nathan Pancake, Philip Pancake and wife Noel (Jones), Isaac Pancake and wife Ashley (Rohrbaugh), and Silas Pancake and wife Jessica (Paugh), all of New Creek and Andrew Pancake and wife Gina (Braithwaite) of Elk Garden. He is also survived by his two sisters, Norma Ellifritz of New Creek and Hilda Stead of Whitsett, NC, his 34 grandchildren and one on the way, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00am with Robert E. Surgenor, Evangelist officiating.
