Gladys Kenney Obituary

Gladys L. Kenney

Falls Church, VA - Gladys Louise Kenney, 100 years, of Falls Church Virginia, formerly of Keyser, West Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday February 10, 2008.

Born February 15, 1908, early on a frosty morning, just outside of Keyser in New Creek, West Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late Carl Francis Cunningham and Otie' Lee Cunningham Kimmell.  Gladys was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband James Thomas Kenney on January 31, 1983.

Years later, she would be known and loved by so many Keyser residents.   Keyser High students remember her as the lady who gave them a glass of sweet tea when they came into her back yard to retrieve a ball mistakenly launched from the school grounds.  Yet, others will remember her as Joy Lee's Mom hosting a tea for all the Misses, while some will remember her friendly hello and smile, the neighbor sweeping in front of her home on Mineral Street.  That home is now part of the Candlewick Inn, and like her home she will always be a part of Keyser History.   She celebrated each and every day in her 100 years of living, always proud to call Keyser HOME.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Keyser and a former member of the Keyser Normans Club.

Mrs. Kenney is survived by one daughter Joy Lee Dixon Hartman of Thomasville, Georgia; two grandsons, Gregory P. Dixon, and Gary T. Dixon; two granddaughters; In-laws, Sandra Dixon, and Mary Dixon and four great-grandchildren, Brad Dixon, Clint Dixon, Michael Dixon, and Katie Dixon.

Friends will be received Friday, February 15, 2008 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser.  Funeral Services will be held immediately after the visitation at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bart Thompson officiating.

Interment will follow in Queens' Point Cemetery, Keyser, W.Va.
