Gerald Jerome Oates
Keyser, WV – Gerald Jerome Oates, 90, of Keyser, died on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Hampshire Center in, Romney, WV.
Born on August 8, 1932 in Petersburg, WV he was a son of the late Pearl Dale (Riley) and Olin Richard Oates, Sr. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Pauline May “Polly” (Smith) Oates; two brothers, Olin Richard Oates, Jr. and Joseph Keith Oates; two sisters, Phyllis Dale Smith and Norma Beverly Lee; and his son-in-law, Charles H. Hartman.
Gerald retired from Westvaco as a paper machine tender and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser and VFW Post 6775, Queen’s Point, McCoole, MD.
Surviving are his two daughters, Judith A. Hartman of Cumberland, MD and Julie L. Mann and husband John E. of Zelienople, PA and his sisters, Carolyn Fay Riggleman and Elizabeth Sue Smith and husband Williford. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Abby J. Bennett and Tanis E Ridenour and husband Dustin and his great-grandsons, Connor Maxwell Bennett, Hampton James Ridenour and Asher Jude Ridenour.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Markwood Funeral Home from 11:00am- 1:00pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00pm with Pastor Beth Jacobson officiating. Inurnment will be held in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Mausoleum with military honors accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post #71 Oakland Honor Guard and VFW Post 10077 Honor Guard.
