Georgenna T. “Cookie” Beckman

    KEYSER, WV - Georgenna T. “Cookie” Beckman, 78, of Keyser, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland.  

    Born on May 19, 1946 in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Christa (Tasker) Browning. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Connie Wilson and husband Samuel and her brother, Michael V. Pratt and wife Donna. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

    Georgenna was the youngest of the three children and grew up in Garrett County, MD. She graduated from Southern High School and the Catherman’s Business School.  She worked as a Key Punch Operator in Oakland, MD and was a Hallmark Associate in Keyser. 

    Cookie was a devoted homemaker and a loving wife of 59 years to her husband, Harold. Together they raised two amazing children, Gina and Scott. She enjoyed planting flowers, bowling, listening to Gaither gospel music, playing bingo and attending her grandchildren’s activities. 

    She accomplished many things throughout her life but the best memories for her were taking care of her family and being a big part of her grandchildren’s early years. For her, babysitting took on a whole new meaning.

    Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Harold E. Beckman; two children, Gina Staggers and husband Jeffrey of Keyser and Scott E. Beckman and wife Laura of Clear Spring, MD; her three special loves, granddaughter, Brooke Leigh Parrish and husband Brent and two grandsons, Chase Scott Staggers and Scott E. Beckman, II and a special great- granddaughter, Paisley Grace Parrish. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. 

    Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 1:00- 2:30pm Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:30pm with Pastor Lucas Taylor officiating. Inurnment will be held in Swanton Cemetery, Maryland.
