George D. Alkire, Jr.
George D. Alkire, Jr., a proud veteran of the Air Force and a Vietnam Veteran, passed away October 13th, 2021 after a two-year long battle from complications of Agent Orange.
George grew up in Keyser, West Virginia and was born on February 17th, 1945. During college, George enlisted in the Air Force. George valued this service highly and attained the rank of Airman First Class. .
George is survived by Sally Misch Alkire, his wife of 44 years. He is preceded in death by his son, Gregory Scott Alkire. He is survived by Jenell and William Murphy and his grandsons who adored him, Gavin and Branigan Murphy. He is survived by his siblings, Sharon Myers and husband Mackie and Billie Simpson and brother-in-law, Gary Simpson. He is preceded in death by his parents, George D. Sr and Fairy Booth Alkire, his siblings, Catherine, Donald, Josephine and June. George was a beloved Uncle and Great Uncle and is survived by a wonderful group of nephews and nieces.
George's loved ones will remember his faith and commitment to Lakewood United Church of Christ and his endearing commitment to his wife Sally. He will also be remembered for the valuable lessons he taught many in the past several years in regards to resilience, humbleness, having a great sense of humor and treating everyone with kindness during such hardship, all while having amazing fortitude.
A private Military burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in November. Due to Covid limitations and Sally’s auto immune disease there will be no immediate, larger memorial service. Sally will convey any plans through social media when the time comes.
