 Ernest A. Mills

    CONVOY, OH- Ernest A. Mills, 78, of Convoy, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Vancrest of Convoy.

     Born on April 25, 1938 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Harry V. Mills and Ida (Cox) Hammersmith Mills.  He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Mills, Jessie Longbaugh, Mamie Summey, Mandy Scheck and Lucy Stevenson.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

     Ernest was a United States Korean Conflict and Vietnam Army Veteran; he served from 1951 to 1959. After his time in service he moved to Green Springs, OH and worked in numerous factories before moving to Bradner, OH to work for the Good Year Company. He later was transferred to Van Wert, OH where he retired from the Chrysler/ICM Company.

     He was a member of the Van Wert VFW Post #5803 and AMVets Post 698, where he held several positions in office and enjoyed attending the VFW conventions. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Wanda traveling in their RV and camping.  

     To cherish in Ernest’s memory are his loving wife Wanda (Thomas) Mills; his only son, Matthew Mills and wife Jeanine of Convoy, OH, from a previous marriage;  his 8 grandchildren and his 5 great-grandchildren.

     A graveside service will be held in Eckart Cemetery on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10:00am.

     A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00pm at the home of Thelma Cox.
