Dawna Lynn (Grayson) Day

     KEYSER, WV - Dawna (Grayson) Day, 63, of Keyser, WV, finished her race on June 27, 2019 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

     Born on November 12, 1955 in Cumberland, MD, she was a lifelong resident of Keyser, WV. Dawna was preceded in death by her father, Donald C. Grayson, Jr. and her husband, Michael Kelly Day.

     She is survived by her mother, Helen (Mowbray) Grayson of Keyser, two sons, Michael Jonathan Day and wife Lael of Greenville, S.C. and their three sons, Kai Taj, and Koa, and Daniel Kelly Day and wife Constance Douglas (C.D.) of Keyser and their sons Channing and Orion, two sisters, Valerie Grayson Lechliter of Somerset, PA and Beth Grayson of Keyser; a brother, Donald C. “Chet” Grayson, III of Keyser and nephews Nathaniel Grayson of Morgantown, WV and Simon Grayson of Keyser.

     Dawna was a graduate of Potomac State College and West Virginia University with a Master’s degree in Social work and held a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Work) license.  She retired July 1, 2018 from DHHS in Garrett County, MD where she was instrumental in implementing the “Finding Words” program to assist victims of child sexual abuse tell their stories.  She was a therapist at Mountain State Psychological, Keyser, WV, and was the organist for First United Methodist Church and the FUMC Chancel Choir.

     Dawna was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and endeavored to honor Him in every aspect of her life. She took joy in simple things: music, lavender, good coffee, Jan Karon’s Mitford series, NPR radio, the Sunday Washington Post, and most importantly, her five beautiful grandsons.

     She was wonderfully supported during her illness by her family, brothers and sisters in Christ, lifelong friends and neighbors.  Her sense of humor and stoic nature remained intact throughout her illness. 

     Friends and relatives will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 30th at Markwood Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be on Monday, July 1 at First United Methodist Church, Davis Street, Keyser at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to funeral services. Funeral will be followed by a private burial at St. Thomas Cemetery.

     The family would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the many people who uplifted Dawna in prayer and served us lovingly and practically in so many ways during this last year.
