With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Charlene Ann Junkins (née Smith), who completed her earthly journey on March 18, 2026, in the comfort of her daughter's home in Keyser, West Virginia, at the venerable age of 78.
Charlene, a steadfast matriarch and cherished community member, was born on November 1, 1947, in Cumberland, Maryland to Charles K. Smith and Madeline Delsignore, both of whom preceded her in death.
A proud alumna of Elk Garden High School, Charlene devoted much of her time to the betterment of others, volunteering with unwavering commitment at the Keyser Senior Citizens and upholding her faith as an active participant in the Living Word Christian Fellowship.
She is survived by a lineage of love, including her son Nathan Junkins; her daughter Melissa Junkins Hamrick and her husband Jerry of Keyser; her son Dave Whitman and his wife Stephanie; her cherished grandchildren, among them Michelle O. Kalp and her husband Zack; and her adored great-grandchildren Moira Kalp, Killian Kalp, Kira Kalp and William Whitman. Her brother, Mike Smith and his wife Debora, along with her sister Linda Coffman and her husband Mickey, also mourn her passing. Charlene was also predeceased by her brother; Charles “JR” Smith.
The family invites loved ones to join them in a graveside service honoring Charlene's life, to be held at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser, WV, on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11:00 am. Rev. Dr. Stephon Reed of Living Word Christian Fellowship will officiating offering solace through sacred scripture and prayer.
In remembrance of Charlene's enduring spirit of generosity, memorial contributions may be directed to the Faith in Action Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1073, Keyser, WV 26726.
The care of Mrs. Junkins and her family has been entrusted to Markwood Funeral Home. Charlene's memory will be treasured as a blessing by all who were graced by her presence. Her legacy of love, service, and faith will resonate for generations to come. May she rest in God's eternal peace.
