Caleb Jacob Kerns Jones

     Burlington, WV - With broken hearts and the Hope of Heaven, the family of Caleb Jacob Kerns Jones announces his passing as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Monday, May 26th 2025.

     Born on July 19, 1990 in Cumberland, MD, Caleb was the son of Lana Marie (Kerns) Jones, and the late William Edward “Wilbur” Jones of Keyser, WV. 

     Caleb married Shannon (Johnson) Jones on March 18, 2014. She and their beautiful daughter Emma Paige Jones were his best friends. He loved his Emma Paige more than anything in the world. He kept Shannon and Emma loved and laughing. 

     In addition to his mother, wife, and daughter, left to cherish his memory are siblings, Brittny Shayna Jones and Gabriel William Andrew Jones. Grandmother Jenny Lynn Kerns. Mother-in-law Laura Johnson-Carnes and siblings-in-law Erin (Daniel) Shelly; Carl (Megan) Johnson . He is also survived by nephews, Tahlton, Walker, Cohin Redman; Alexander, Luke, Owen Shelly; Edward Johnson. Nieces Cora Redman; Kate, Caris, Samantha Shelly; Vivienne Johnson. As well as aunts Teresa (Keith) Staggs; Beverly “Sis” Fife. Uncles DeWayne (Mary K.) Kerns; Jimmy “Old Man” Jones. Cousins Stevie, Rachel, Morgan, Whitney, Jessie, and Zak. Life-long best friends Orrin, “Log”, “Roball”, “Heare Due”, and Casey.    

     He was preceded in death by Pappaw Wayne Kerns and Mammaw Ruby Dilley 

     Caleb entered service in the West Virginia Army National Guard on July 29, 2010 as a Horizontal Construction Engineer. Caleb served in the 922nd Engineer detachment out of Martinsburg, WV and the 821st Engineer company out of Summerville, WV. During this time, he deployed twice - serving in Kuwait; Saudi Arabia; and Afghanistan. 

     In 2020, Caleb was selected to become an Army Aviator and graduated from flight school on September 11, 2022 as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot assigned to C. Co 1-150th AVN in Wheeling, WV. During this time, he amassed over 400 hours in both the UH-72 Lakota and UH-60 Blackhawk. On December 3, 2022, he was promoted to CW2.

     His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal (2nd award); Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award); Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3rd Award); National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device; NATO Medal; West Virginia Service Ribbon; West Virginia State Service Ribbon.

     Caleb worked for Local Carpenters’ Union 423 for 16 years. Most recently, he worked out of Dominion Power Station as a scaffold builder where he had many co-workers who he considered his brothers such as Matt Smith, Kris Fout, Clint Weasonforth.

     He was an avid member of the Wingmen Motorcycle Club and loved his nation and his brothers. 

     Caleb never met a stranger. He worked hard for his family and his friends in big and small ways. He was always ready to go out of his way to “take care of it.” Even after becoming a pilot and the rest of his long list of accomplishments, he always said his greatest pride and accomplishment was his sweet Emma Paige.

     Friends will be received on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Markwood Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 12:00pm Noon with Reverend Michael Goldizen officiating. Additional visitation will be held prior to the funeral services from 10:00am-Noon. Temporary entombment will follow the services in Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Full Military Honors accorded by the United States Army National Honor Guard and the Keyser American Legion Honor Guard. Final burial will be held at a later date in the Jones family cabin property.
