Brenda J Swim

Brenda Joy Swim (née Cook), age 83, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at her residence in Keyser, West Virginia. Born on January 12, 1943, in Keyser.  She was very involved in the communities where she lived.. Brenda pursued a distinguished education that began with her graduation from Piedmont High School. She continued her academic journey at Potomac State College and at West Virginia University, where she earned a BS degree and took graduate courses for an equivalent Master’s degree in Education. Her dedication to learning and teaching left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

A devoted member of the (WELS) Lutheran Church, Brenda lived a life of faith and service. She was actively involved in several organizations that reflected her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others. A paramedic with Keyser Rescue Squad, Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, St. Mary’s County Life Advance, and taught the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) where she contributed her time and energy to causes close to her heart.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Claude B. "Benny" Swim, with whom she shared many cherished years of marriage. She is also survived by her sister Linda Hine, her nephew; Kevin Hine, his wife, Missy and children, (and other nieces and nephews) who were a constant source of love and support throughout her life. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Walter T. Cook and Winifred Wyanda Mathena, her grandparents “Mack” and Lucy Mathena, whose memory she honored through her kindness and dedication to family. 

Brenda’s legacy is one of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
