Betty Only (Lipscomb) Markwood

     KEYSER, WV - Betty Only (Lipscomb) Markwood, 94, of Keyser, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Hospice of the Panhandle surrounded by her loved ones. 

     Born on December 31, 1930 in Pierce, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ira Mitchell Lipscomb and Lena Jane (Reis) Lipscomb. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Bernard West “Bunny” Markwood, Jr.; brothers, Oney Lipscomb and wives Teresa and Marjorie; Dale Lipscomb and wife Barbara; and her sisters, Delores Moreland and husband Coye; and Elloween Lipscomb. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

     Betty graduated from Bruce High School, Class of 1948 and the Catherman’s Business School. Her career included working as secretary for Allegany Ballistics Laboratory of Carpendale, WV and the Honorable C. Reeves Taylor of Keyser, WV.   She retired from the 21st Judicial Circuit of West Virginia as Court Reporter.

     Left to cherish in her memory are her beloved daughters, Susan ‘Sue” Floyd and husband Kenny and Kelly Zacot and husband Joseph; grandchildren, William Floyd and fiancée Abigail, Thomas Floyd, Seton Zacot and wife Elizabeth and Dakotah Zacot and wife Brigitte; three great-grandsons and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 57, Burlington, WV 26710;  Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or to a charity of one’s choice.

     Friends will be received on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Markwood Funeral Home from 11:00am – 1:30pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:30pm with Pastor Thomas N. Caldwell, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
