Aletha Dunithan Obituary

Aletha Dunithan

Aletha Dunithan was born on September 29, 1957 to Joseph, Jr. and Mary Bircher Paugh.  She went home to her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on October 21, 2022.  She had wonderful visits around her bedside with those who loved her most, and God answered her prayers in a mighty way as she was able to meet her newborn little granddaughter, Charlie Faye Dunithan, before she passed from this life to the next.

Aletha leaves behind three sons, Casey Dunithan and his wife Stephanie, Christopher Dunithan and his wife Tabitha, and Eric Dunithan and his wife Riley.  In her own words, her “legacy is the good men her sons have become.” She also leaves behind three beloved granddaughters, Alexandra, Celini, and Charlie Faye and her special friend, Rhonda Jenkins and her aunt and uncle, Sherry and Tommy Lee and a brother, Jerry Paugh. She also leaves behind her constant companions, her many special “fur babies”.

Aletha was a nurse for twenty-two years, a vocation to which God called her, as she put it, “with his still, small voice.”  Her nursing career included her service at Hampshire County Memorial Hospital Extended Care and at other area nursing homes.  She especially loved caring for the elderly.  Her nursing career also led her to use her skills at administration and problem-solving.

Even more than nursing, Aletha loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them.

Aletha loved her Lord, and she had fond memories of her time spent at Nethken Hill United Methodist Church and at Swanton Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received on Monday, October 24 from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at Markwood Funeral Home in Keyser, West Virginia.  A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00 noon with Rev. Vickie Minnich officiating.  Interment will take place at the Nethken Hill Cemetery near Elk Garden.

In lieu of flowers, it is Aletha’s wish that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family is grateful to Sherry, Tommy, Rhonda, the hospice nurses, and the many other family and friends who gave care to Aletha during her courageous battle with cancer.
