Lavine Catherine Cook
Keyser, WV -- Lavine Catherine Cook, long-time resident of Keyser, went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2018. Born on April 11, 1933, in Paw Paw, WV, she was the daughter of the late Enoch Howard Blizzard and Martha Susan Blizzard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Cook, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Lavine loved her family and the Lord with a fierce devotion. She graduated from Bruce High School, Class of 1951 and worked for many years as an industrial seamstress at Keyser Garment; and upon her retirement, she continued to sew/mend clothing for friends, neighbors and members of the community from her home on C Street in Keyser. She was a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly in Keyser, where she was active in Bible study, the women’s ministry, and cared deeply about mission work.
Surviving are four children; Steven L. Cook and wife, Carolyn, Kingsport, TN, Barbara C. Miller and husband, Gary, Apex, NC, Dennis M. Cook and wife, Lisa, Morgantown, WV, and Pamela A. Cook, of Keyser. She was a devoted “Granny” to her six grandchildren -- Julie Pierson Fields, Jason Cook, Joshua Cook, Sarah-Beth Miller, Monica Verhaeghe, and Dustin Cook -- and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Sunday, October 7, at the Markwood Funeral Home on Mineral Street from 6 to 8 PM. Services will be conducted at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser, on Monday, October 8, at 11 AM with the Rev. Donna Leatherman officiating. Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
