Joseph R. “Joe Ray” Sanders
KEYSER, WV- Joseph R. “Joe Ray” Sanders, 64, of Keyser, died on Monday, February 25, 2019 at his residence.
Born on Tuesday, November 9, 1954 in Munich, Germany, he was a son of Sally (Miller) Sanders of Keyser and the Late Joseph Q. Sanders. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Jay Sanders; grandparents, Carson and Lenore (Rotruck) Miller and special aunt and uncle, Charles Ray and Bess Liller.
Joe Ray graduated from Keyser High School, Class of 1972 and was employed as a contractor laborer. He was a protestant by faith. An avid fisherman and hunter, but his real passion was cooking for all to enjoy.
Surviving in addition to his mother, Sally (Miller) Sanders are his children, Shawna M. Shumaker of Keyser and Joseph Ray “Joee” Sanders, II of Melbourne, FL; his sister, Kimberlie King and husband Joe of Keyser and grandson, Kaleb Thornton. He is also survived by his nephew, Clayton King (Misty) and son Gavin; niece Erin (King) Pritts (Jamie) and daughter Devyn and his lifelong friend, Richard “Dickie” Barrick.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Joe Ray’s friends and second family at the Keyser Renal Center for the kindness, attentive care and loving support they showed over the last few years.
The family will receive friends at the Markwood Funeral Home on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the funeral home with the Reverend Wayne Gosnell officiating. Interment will follow services in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Joseph R. Sanders to National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016.
