Helen K. House

     KEYSER, WV - Helen K. House, 81, Keyser, W.Va. passed away, Monday, November 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

     Born December 30, 1935 in Westernport, MD, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Alexsina (Waitekunas) Kazlo.  She was predeceased by brothers, Orvel and John Kazlo, and sister, Amelia Hartman.

      She attended St. Peter's Catholic School, in Westernport, until 9th grade and then attended and graduated from Bruce High School, where she played on the girls’ basketball team.  She attended Potomac State College in 1953, graduating in 1955 with an associate's degree in secretarial business.  At PSC, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Psi Sorority, the Sigma Phi Omega Honor Society, the Women's Athletic Association and a member of the Newman Club.  After graduation, she accepted a position at West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, Luke, MD in the billing department.

     Helen married Joseph L. House on November 28, 1959.  She was a loving wife and caring, nurturing stay-at-home Mom who was active with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Webelos, Brownies, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and volunteered at the St. Frances Catholic School. She was a member and past president of the Busy Bees Homemakers; the El-Fidel Dance Club; member and past president of the Keyser Jay-Shes, the women's auxiliary of the Jaycees; and two-term treasurer of the state Jay-Shes organization. She also helped at the After School Program, in Piedmont, WV.

     She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Church of the Assumption in Keyser where she was a former member of the choir and lay minister to the home bound.

     Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, playing bridge, and traveling.  She and Joe traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Panama Canal, East and West Caribbean, Bermuda, The Holy Lands and Europe.  Their last trip out of the country was to Lithuania, the birthplace of her parents.

     Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Joseph L House; their children, Rene' M. Trezise and husband Kevin of Cresaptown, MD and Joseph M. House and wife Melinda of Dover, Ohio; three grandchildren, Michelle E. and Joseph N. House and Bryce P. Trezise; brother Joseph Kazlo and wife Elgerina of NC; sister-in-law Doris Pitman and husband Jim of Morgantown, WV and a number of nieces and nephews.

     The family is forever grateful to her caregivers during her courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), and to the Potomac Valley Hospice Program. 

     Friends may call at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday November 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Christian Requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Assumption. Interment will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Keyser, WV.

     In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Helen's memory to the charity of your choice.
