McCOOLE, MD – David A. Dayton, 84, of McCoole, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Piney Valley Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born April 5, 1933 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Lewis and Allie May (Arnold) Dayton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra A. Dayton. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
David was an U.S. Army retiree with over 22 years of active duty where he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era. After his military services, he was employed and retired from Automated Packaging System. He was a member of VFW Post 6775, McCoole and former member of Order of DeMolay.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley H. (Johnston) Dayton; his two sons, David A. Dayton, Jr. and wife Deborah and William A. “Bill” Dayton, all of McCoole and three grandchildren, Lauren Dayton, Vicki Twomey and Sean Dayton.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sally Bartling officiating.
Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Garden, Keyser, where military honors will be accorded by U.S. Army National Honor Guard.
The family has requested memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 108 Byte Drive #103, Frederick, MD 21702.
